PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound having a lower viscosity than a conventional linear-cyclic compound and having excellent compatibility with a liquid crystal composition, and to provide a liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display element using the compound.SOLUTION: The compound is expressed by formula (1); and a liquid composition containing the compound and a liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition are also disclosed. In the formula, Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, or the like; Aand Aeach independently represent 1,4-cyclohexylene group, 1,4-phenylene group, or the like; Zand Zeach independently represent -CFO-, -OCF-, -CHCH-, -CHO-, -OCH-, a single bond, or the like; Yrepresents a fluorine atom or the like; m represents 0, 1, 2 or 3; and n represents 1, 2, or 3. |
