PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell that has a power generation area and an edge area surrounding the power generation area and can moderate concentration of stress caused by thermal expansion and lamination load in the edge area.SOLUTION: Plural fuel cells C are laminated to constitute a fuel cell stack FS. The fuel cell C has a membrane electrode assembly 1 having a frame 51 on the periphery thereof, and a pair of separators 2 sandwiching the frame 51 and the membrane electrode assembly 1 therebetween. An area in which the membrane electrode assembly 1 interposes is set as a power generating area G, and an area in which the frame 51 interposes is set as an edge area E. The rigidity of the edge area E of the separator 2 is set to be lower than the rigidity of the power generation area G of the same separator 2, whereby concentration of stress caused by thermal expansion and lamination load in the edge area E can be moderated. |
