CELL SEARCH AND MEASUREMENT IN HETEROGENEOUS NETWORKS

The present invention relates to a method and, apparatus for cell searching implemented by a mobile terminal. The method comprises either using a normal cell search or an extended cell search based on radio resource control information received from a base station. If the normal cell search is to be used, the normal cell search is performed using a first measurement and reporting threshold, while if the extended cell search is to be used, the extended cell search is performed using a second measurement and reporting threshold lower than the first measurement and reporting threshold. The first measurement and reporting threshold corresponds to a first Es/lot ratio between received power per resource element (Es) and received power spectral density of noise and interference per resource element (lot). The second measurement and reporting threshold corresponds to a second Es/lot ratio.
