An implantable modular orthopaedic hip prosthesis includes an implantable distal stem component having a tapered post which can be received into a tapered bore of an implantable proximal body component. A threaded bore extends inferiorly into the distal stem component, and an alignment key is secured to the superior surface of the distal stem component and extends superiorly therefrom.
