A helmet mounted, powered air respirator kit (and associated apparatus) comprises a (i) visor 9 detachably connected to a front edge of a safety helmet 4, (ii) a drive unit 1 removably attachable to the helmet, (iii) at least one filter module (22, Fig 4) removably attachable to the helmet such that, in use, a fluid flow path is defined through the filter module to a space between the user's face and an inner surface of the visor, and (iv) a power module 10 which is removably attached to the helmet and, in use, electrically connectable to the drive unit. A visor carrier 3 for use with the kit comprises a curved band detachably connected to the front edge of the helmet and a peak portion which extends generally horizontally from the band so that a first portion extends beyond a front edge of the visor and a second portion extends between the rear of the band and the front edge of the helmet. A gasket 2 for use with the kit, is removably connected to the front edge of the helmet and has a curved configuration which extends around a corresponding curved portion of the front edge. |
