PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a separated-heating fixing device, configured to detect toner sticking to a non-printing area of an image carrier or a non-image area due to cleaning failure or the like of the image carrier, at a low cost, in a wide range, with high reliability.SOLUTION: Cleaning means 19 removes toner remaining on a surface of a photoreceptor 13, as an image carrier, or transfer belts 38, 40. On the downstream of the cleaning means 19, a cleaning failure detection sensor 31 is arranged for detecting residual toner removal failure. The sensor 31 is arranged to reciprocate in a longitudinal direction of the photoreceptor 13 or a width direction of the transfer belts 38, 40. Image information of heating control means 24 for controlling separated-heating thermal heaters 20a-20g is used for detecting that a non-printing area or a non-image area has reached a sensing position of the cleaning failure detection sensor 31. |
