An ultrasonic vibrator of a transducer for reception is so arranged as to receive a first reflected wave generated with the pulse wave P1 and a second reflected wave generated with the pulse wave P2. An arrival direction estimation device of a receiver performs an operation associated with an incoming wave by applying an adaptive beam forming method to a composite echo signal obtained from a composite reflected wave of the first reflected wave and second reflected wave received successively by the transducer for reception.
