[Classes 108 (i) and 108 (iii).] In ambulances in which the stretcher is adapted to be brought to a lower level for loading and subsequently raised, the stretcher support is carried by lever arms counterbalanced by spring devices which are adjustable. The upper stretcher supporting device 15, 18, 18a is carried by lever arms 5, 5a, 5b and is adapted to be lowered against the resistance of an adjustable spring device which consequently assists the subsequent raising. The front lever arms may be detached from the supporting device which may then be turned up as shown in Fig. 5 to permit access to the lower stretcher supporting device 18b. The upper stretcher device may be locked in its upper and lower positions by means of a rod 5w adapted to enter apertures in the bracket 20 as shown in Fig. 7. Spring buffers.-The spring device comprises two telescopic casings 8, 9 enclosing a spring 11 while the casing 9 further telescopes into a casing 10 in which are housed two springs 12, 13 separated by an abutment plate 10a and provided with an adjustable plate 14 to vary the compression and consequently the resistance of the device.
