Functionalized metal oxide particles comprising, on the surface, a radical of formula I (I) wherein the particle comprises an oxide of a metal; R1 is C, (CH2)1-12-C, or (CH2)1-12-O(O)C-C1;R2 is CR4R5, where R4 and R5 are independently selected among H and C1-C12 alkyl; and R3 is H, halo, C1-C12 alkyl, or C1-C12 haloalkyl.
