1. A product comprising:
a rotational member wherein the rotational member is ferritically nitrocarburized to provide a compound zone comprising an iron nitride layer and an overlying porous oxide layer, the rotational member comprising a friction surface configured for braking engagement with a corresponding friction material; and the rotational member further comprising a transfer layer disposed on the porous oxide layer so that the rotational member has a higher apparent coefficient of friction than a rotational member without the transfer layer on the porous oxide layer, wherein the transfer layer comprises at least one of glass, rubber, carbon, aramid fiber, filler material, abrasive, or high-temperature resin. |
