The selecting unit selects a character recognition result in a first frame of the document from plural character recognition candidates in the first frame on the basis of definition information defining a relationship between a character string in the first frame of the document and a character string in a second frame of the document different from the first frame.

a receiving unit configured to receive an image of a document;a recognition candidate generation unit configured to recognize a plurality of character recognition candidates in a first frame of the document;a determination unit configured to determine whether a first character recognition candidate, among the plurality of character recognition candidates, matches definition information defining a relationship between a character string in the first frame of the document and a character string in a second frame of the document, wherein the second frame is different from the first frame;a selecting unit configured to select the first character recognition candidate as a character recognition result for the first frame of the document; andan output unit configured to output the first character recognition candidate as the character recognition result for the first frame of the document.
