A method of animal feed analysis includes the steps of measuring the crude protein concentration of animal feed and deriving therefrom the dietary intake of nitrogen of an animal ingesting the feed. One or more of the factors Milk urea nitrogen (MUN), urinary nitrogen (UN) and nitrogen utilisation efficiency (NUE) are determined and compared with optimal levels for the or each factor to determine what if any modification of the animal feed and/or farming practices is desirable to achieve optimal ingestion of nitrogen for an animal ingesting the feed. |
