发明名称 Improvements in or relating to crankshafts of internal combustion or other engines
摘要 466,442. Crank shafts; lubricating engines. NICHOLSON, T. M. March 27, 1936, No. 9102. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] Built-up shafts comprise a number of similar units formed of two circular webs 11, 12 connected by an integral crank pin 13, and formed with circular bosses 14. When the units are bolted together the bosses 14 are coaxial and form the journals of the shaft on which the ball races 15 are fitted. The peripheries of the webs are reduced in width at 50 in order that the outer races 20 may be free to rotate relatively to the inner races, and to be secured to the crankcase. The webs fit sufficiently close to internal ribs 21, Fig. 6, on the crank case to cause the formation of a permanent film of oil there and are formed with a passage 35 and external groove 37, so that oil passes from inlet ports 36 along the grooves 37 and passages 35 into passages 38, 39, 40, in the pins. Oil collects in a passage 41 which communicates through a non-return valve 43 with a sump 42. In the modified form shown in Fig. 7, an independent pin 13 is held in tapered holes in discs 11, 12 by locking nuts or rings 30. Juxtaposed recesses 31 on the bosses 14 receive ball races 15. At each end of the shaft is a member 34 for connection with a driven shaft. One boss 14 of a journal may be grooved to engage a rib on the adjacent boss. A modified method of uniting adjacent webs is shown in Fig. 8. The webs are drawn together by headed bolts 51, 52 which screw into a sleeve 48. A split septum 49 of the sleeve is bored to receive the tapered end 54 of a screw plug 53 by which the sleeve may be expanded to grip the webs.
