Methods and materials for sand control in water injection sites are disclosed. Proppant particles may be coated with some particles coated with a diene and other proppant particles coated with a dienophile that would bind the particles through a Diels-Alder reaction. In some other embodiments, proppant particles may be coated with alternating layers of diene and dienophile that would react through a Diels-Alder reaction. The invention may be advantageous for forming underground structures useful in the extraction of hydrocarbons. |

1. A method of binding proppants in an underground formation, comprising:
delivering a slurry comprising a first resin coated proppant and a second resin coated proppant through a wellbore; contacting the first coated proppant with a second coated proppant in an underground formation at a temperature sufficient to cause a resin coating on the first coated proppant to react with a resin coating on the second coated proppant in a Diels Alder reaction; wherein a reactive component in the resin coating on the first coated proppant consists essentially of one or more dienes and wherein a reactive component in the resin coating on the second coated proppant consists essentially of one or more dienophiles. |
