The method according to the invention for operating a wind turbine (1), in which at least one measured value is observed over a predefined monitoring time period for the system start of the wind turbine (1) on request and the system start occurs only if the at least one measured value in the monitoring time period corresponds to defined specifications, is characterized by the fact that the at least one measured value is continuously stored in a data memory, wherein the storage time period in the data memory corresponds at least to the specified monitoring time period; and in the event of a request for a system start it is checked by means of the data memory whether the at least one measured value corresponds to the defined specifications (16) in the time before the request corresponding to the monitoring time period.
