In a communication system (10) having a plurality of communication devices (4) connected to each other via a network: a root device (4), which is one of the plurality of communication devices, stores system information including address information and communication possibility information for each of the plurality of communication devices (4); the root device (4) periodically transmits the system information to each of the plurality of communication devices (4); each of the plurality of communication devices (4), when the system information is received, returns a response message indicating that the information was received to the root device (4); and the root device (4) determines whether a response message was returned from each of the plurality of communication devices, and if a response message was not received from any of the communication devices (4), rewrites the communication possibility information of the communication device to indicate that communication is not possible, and updates the system information. |
