An electric wire protection device 1 comprising a pyrotechnic cut-off switch 11 provided part-way along an electric wire 10 connecting a load 3 and a vehicle-mounted power supply 2 that is connected to a reference potential. The pyrotechnic cut-off switch 11 is provided part-way along the electric wire 10 and has: a conductive section 11a through which current between the vehicle-mounted power supply 2 and the load 3 flows; a cutting blade 11c that cuts the conductive section 11a; a drive unit 11d that, as a result of the explosive power of gunpowder, propels the cutting blade 11c in direction in which the conductive section 11a is to be cut; and first and second terminals that input and output current that drives the drive unit 11d. In addition, the electric wire protection device 1 comprises: a conductive wire 10 having one end thereof connected to the electric wire 10 and the other end thereof connected to the first terminal; and a diode 12 having an anode connected to the reference potential and a cathode connected to the second terminal.
