An endoscope has an operation section provided with: a bending operation knob; and a cylindrical gripping section provided between an insertion section and the operation section and gripped by a user. The gripping section has: a first surface adjacent in a longitudinal axis direction to a surface on which the bending operation knob is provided; a second surface formed on the reverse side of the first surface in the longitudinal axis direction; a side surface formed between the first surface and the second surface; a protrusion protruding radially outward relative to the longitudinal axis at a position adjacent to the first surface about the longitudinal axis; a first sloped surface provided on the side of the protrusion, which is adjacent to the first surface, and sloped relative to the first surface so as to be located on the reverse side of the second surface; and a second sloped surface which is provided on the opposite side of the protrusion from the first sloped surface, connects the protrusion and the side surface, and is sloped relative to the first surface and the side surface. |
