Hydrophilic precipitated silica (I) with an equilibrium moisture content of 0.5-5.0 wt% (at 20[deg]C and 70% RH), a BET surface of 50-250 m 2>/g. a CTAB surface of 50-250 m 2>/g and a DBP number (anhydrous) of 200-350 g/100 g. Independent claims are included for (1) a method for the production of (I) by (1) reacting silicate(s) with acid and then (2) filtering and washing, (3) drying and (4) tempering the resulting silica (2) hydrophilic precipitated silica (I) obtained by this method (3) sealing materials containing (I) .
