PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining a place in which a portable device is carried, a portable device, a system for determining a place in which the portable device is carried, a program, and an information storage medium for making it possible to continuously grasp the place in which the portable device is carried, not only when a user of the portable device is walking but also when the user is resting.SOLUTION: A method for determining a place in which a portable device is carried includes the steps of: continuously acquiring data from an inertial sensor provided in the portable device; extracting at least part of the acquired data as determination target data (S10); calculating magnitude of dispersion of data included in the determination target data, and determining whether or not a carrying person's gesture pattern corresponding to any gesture of a plurality of gestures for changing a place in which the portable device is carried is present in the determination target data on the basis of the magnitude of the dispersion (S12); and determining a place in which the portable device is carried on the basis of a result of the determination (S18, S26). |
