PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition for an active matrix type liquid crystal display element, which has a wide temperature range of a liquid crystal phase and a low viscosity, and to provide an active matrix liquid crystal display element having a wide operation temperature range using the above liquid crystal composition.SOLUTION: A nematic liquid crystal composition is provided, which contains a compound expressed by structural formula (1) as a first component by 35 to 65% and a compound expressed by general formula (2) as a second component. The liquid crystal composition has an extremely low viscosity, a stable nematic phase at a low temperature, a wide temperature range of a liquid crystal phase, and refractive index anisotropy that is adjustable in a wide range, and thereby, is useful for a structural member of an active matrix liquid crystal display element. |
