Method of identifying at least one sensor which is determined to be characteristically similar to a first sensor, the sensors 10 arranged to communicate sensed data with the internet 4. Identifying similar sensors comprises use of at least one of: similarity in a physical property or environment measured by a sensor; similarity in the statistical characteristics of measured physical properties/ environments; and dependency between physical properties/environments measured as criteria. An association or mapping between sensors 10 determined to be similar is stored for use subsequently. The method may comprise conducting a search of sensors 10 which are included within a searchable data resource or database, for example by way of registration with a software application, or conducting a search for publically-accessible sensor data over the internet 4 or a communications network. The method may comprise calculating a similarity metric, which may be inversely proportional to the extent of similarity and may be multi-dimensional. The calculated similarity metric may be compared to a threshold similarity. Identified sensors 10 may be ranked in relation to the extent of similarity with the first sensor. |
