PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peptidic medicine which has reduced side effects and can be substituted for the conventionally well-known ACE (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme) inhibitor (hypotensive agent) in the form of an organic synthesized compound (such as captopril).SOLUTION: The angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor contains water-soluble elastin or the elastase hydrolyzate thereof as an active ingredient. A hypotensive agent or drink and food contains the ACE inhibitor. Further, a water-soluble elastin decomposition can be produced by a means of incubating water-soluble elastin having a molecular weight of 1 to 30,000 at 20 to 50°C for 3 to 72 hr in the presence of elastase with a concentration of 0.005 to 0.5 time expressed in terms of w/v, thus hydrolyzing the water-soluble elastin to obtain the decomposition of the water-soluble elastin. |
