PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter of an electric vehicle which detects abnormalities of switching elements more accurately than before.SOLUTION: A power converter comprises: a converter circuit which boosts a voltage of a battery; an inverter circuit which converts the output power of the converter circuit to AC power, and supplies it to a traveling motor; a capacitor connected to an input end of the inverter circuit in parallel therewith; a current sensor which measures an output current of the battery; and a controller. The controller stops the converter circuit while holding the electrical connection of the battery and the inverter circuit, discharges the power of the capacitor to the motor by supplying prescribed drive signals to switching elements, brings the specified switching element of the inverter circuit into a conductive state when a voltage of the capacitor is dropped to the same level of an output voltage of the battery, and makes the inverter circuit short-circuited, and determines abnormalities of the switching elements on the basis of a current value which is measured by the current sensor. |
