A moving-vane AOA probe comprises a vane defined by a leading edge and a trailing edge, an opening 4 located on the leading edge, at least one exhaust opening 6 which may be located on the trailing edge, and a chamber 5 extending through the vane from opening 4 to exhaust 6. Both openings 4 and 6 may be slots extending along their respective edges. The chamber houses a pitot tube 8 for measuring the pressure of the fluid passing through chamber 5. Drain holes 12 and/or foil/ceramic heaters may be used to remove water/ice. An electronics assembly i.e. air-data computer 16 may be located in housing 2a, to take angle of attack and/or pressure readings. Housing 2a may also hold a counterweight system 9 configured to balance the mass distribution of the vane relative to the axis of rotation. A moving-vane AOA probe comprising at least one static pressure system is also provided. Each system comprises a pressure port in the region of a depression (i.e. a groove) on a surface of the vane, and a pressure conduit to transmit the static pressure to the electronics assembly. Both vanes may be used on a vehicle, such as an aircraft. |
