A distributed sensing device 100 and method for measuring a physical quantity by determining a first relation between at least two signals and applying a correcting factor derived from a second, different relation between the same signals. The physical quantity may be temperature, strain or a distribution of either. The device 100 comprising a measuring unit 102 and a determining unit 104 receiving signals from the distributed sensing unit 110. The device may measure the Raman Stokes and anti-Stokes signals in a fibre, the first relationship may be a ratio and the second may be a deviation from a target value and/or a normalised difference. The correction may bring the second relation to the target value or in line with a predefined model. The signals may be weighted independent of the physical quantity, weighting may depend upon noise or signal-to-noise ratios. The target value may be averaged spatially or temporally, the correction may be applied at discrete locations. |
