摘要 An object handling system comprising a grid 14 above a workspace which has robotic load handling devices 30 able to move in two directions across the grid by means of two sets of independently liftable and lowerable wheels. A portion of the stacks of containers 10 in the workspace are removable with respect to the remaining stacks in the workspace. The stacks may be removed by mechanical means which may be a roll cage 40. An object handling system, with the load handling robots described above, in which a portion of grid (15, Figure 6) extends beyond the workspace to enable movement of containers in and out of the workspace. The area beneath this extending grid may be suitable for positioning a vehicle. An object handling system, with the load handling devices described above, which further comprises alignment means for accurate positioning of vehicles to allow transfer of containers. A vehicle for use with the object handling system comprises a portion of the grid sized and shaped to integrate with the grid of the object handling system.
