A system 100 and method comprises receiving by a system server 130 an order request for at least one ordered item from a client device 120; associating, by the system server, a unique identifier 164 being attached to a packaging item 163, with a client and the order request; and detecting, by a scanning device 110, 190, the unique identifier to generate order status information for the system server. Feedback information may be generated for the client based on the order status information. The system server may further determine a packaging type for delivering the ordered item and provide the unique identifier for the packaging item of the determined type. The unique identifier may be an RFID chip, a barcode, or a QR code, amongst other examples, which may be read by a scanning device such as an active area 162 of a smart table 160. A smart table may include a number of applications which may be activated by detecting the unique identifier of the packaging item.
