418,293. Pneumatic tyres. MACMILLAN, J., 139, Station Road, Hendon, London. Jan. 17, 1933, Nos. 1593/33, 4847/33, and 5178/34. [Class 144 (ii).] A wide-section, low-pressure, pneumatic tyre is formed with base-beads having a rim-bearing width greater than the thickness of the sidewalls, the latter being constrained to overhang the rim-flanges 3 by means of inextensible reinforcements 6 associated with the tyre cover, or with the air-tube. Fig. 1 shows tyres of graded widths but of uniform bead and tread diameters, the overhanging portions 5 of the side-walls being also flexed towards the wheelaxis by the reinforcements 6. The latter may consist of wire, rubber-coated cords, or of rubber capable of withstanding the inflationpressure of the tyre.
