A composition suitable for coating printing rollers and the like comprises approximately equal quantities by weight of a saturated solution of magnesium chloride, and commercial starch the water content of which has been reduced to not lower than 0,5 per cent, a quantity of magnesium chloride substantially equal in weight to the weight of water removed from the starch, and from 2-6 per cent of linseed oil. In an example, 95 kgs. of starch of a water content of 12 1/2 per cent were treated to reduce the water content to 3 per cent and were mixed with a quantity of magnesium chloride substantially equal in weight to the water removed, with 100 kgs. of a saturated aqueous solution of magnesium chloride and with 2-6 per cent of linseed oil. After mixing, the mixture was strained, cast and dried, e.g. at 70 DEG C. for 4 hours. |
