420,469. Varying physical properties. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Bethlehem Steel Co. ; Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Dec. 22, 1933, No. 36186. Drawings to Specification. [Class 83 (iv)] To lessen their tendency to flute or stretcher strain, annealed or normalized sheets of low carbon steel are subjected at high speeds, of not less than 1000 ft. per minute, to strains which at lower speeds would cause fluting. The sheets may be subjected to a coiling or uncoiling operation or both or to undulation in a roller leveller arranged so that the radius of curvature of successive bends first gradually decreases and then gradually increases. The sheets may be tinned and thereafter subjected to a further straining operation. |
