PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body detector that is able to appropriately detect the shape of a side surface of a vehicle body by exactly determining an abnormality in a supersonic sensor in vehicle body detection using a supersonic sensor.SOLUTION: A vehicle body detector comprises: an upper surface position detecting part 18 that has, in upper and lower positions, plural photo-electric sensors in each of which a light emitting part 9a and a light receiving part 9b are arranged opposite to each other with a vehicle between them in the width direction thereof, and that detects the upper surface position of the vehicle body by transmission or block of plural optical axes formed between the light emitting part 9a and light receiving part 9b of the photo-electric sensor; and a side position detecting part 19 that has, in upper and lower positions, plural supersonic sensors 12a to 12d adapted to generate a supersonic wave toward a side face of the vehicle and receive a reaction wave from the vehicle body, and that detects a side surface position of the vehicle body from the time taken from the time when the supersonic wave is generated from each of the supersonic wave sensors 12a to 12d to the time when a reaction wave is received. When the side surface position detecting part cannot detect a side surface position of the vehicle body in a position lower than the upper surface position of the vehicle body detected by the upper surface position detecting part 18, the vehicle body detector determines that the supersonic sensor resulting in detection failure is defective. |
