The present invention discloses a method for sending a multicast packet and a switch. The method includes: receiving a multicast packet from a first customer edge or a second customer edge, where the first customer edge is connected to a first switch in a single-homed manner, and the second customer edge is connected, in an all-active manner, to N switches that include the first switch; determining a specified multicast tree of the first switch, where the specified multicast tree is specified in advance from N generated multicast trees in a network, and the N switches respectively belong to the N different specified multicast trees; encapsulating the multicast packet, where a destination switch unique identification address in a header of the encapsulated multicast packet is a unique identification address of a root of the specified multicast tree of the first switch; and forwarding the encapsulated multicast packet to a network side by using the specified multicast tree of the first switch. In the foregoing manner, according to the present invention, it can be implemented without using a special chip that, a multicast packet sent by the second customer edge is not looped back to the second customer edge. |
