Liquids or semi-solids to be evaporated to dryness or solidified by cooling in films on a drum m are transferred thereto from a tank b by positively driven rolls a, g adjustably spaced apart from each other and the drum m. The roll a is driven by a worm c and worm wheel d and forms the fulcrum of a frame e on which a slide f carrying the roller g is adjustably mounted, the roller g being driven from the roll d by a chain h. The frame e is adjustable by an eccentric j acting through a roller i.
