[Class 78 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a drilling or like machine tool having a slide 15 movable along a horizontal guide 13 and carrying a vertically movable part such as a tool-spindle 1 and quill 2 which is balanced by a weight 3, the weight is carried by a lever 9 which is supported by one or more rollers 11 resting on a rail 12 formed on the guide 13, the free end of the lever being pivoted at 10 to the slide 15 so as to relieve the guide 13 of at least a part of the weight of the slide. The weight is attached to the quill by a chain 4 passing over pulleys 7, 8 on the lever, the pulley 7 being preferably journalled on the pivot 10. Instead of mounting the lever 9 directly on the roller 11, the lever may rest on a support carrying one or more rollers moving on the rail 12. |
