[Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] In vehicle bodies in which the frame comprises metal pillars with interconnecting longitudinal and lateral members the pillars are connected along the sides by opposed cant rails and vent rails which are cross-braced so as to form them into a girder construction. The tops of the pillars a<1> are interconnected by a continuous cant rail b and also, spaced therefrom, by a vent rail c and the cant and vent rails are braced by a vertical strut d and diagonal struts d<2> between each pair of pillars. The pillars are of cruciform cross-section and the cant rail of shape shown is nested on the top of the pillar, the outer web a<2> is cut away as shown in Fig. 2. The vent rail is connected by means of rivets or bolts passing through upturned ends of the vent rail and the outer webs a<3> of the pillar. Panelling p is secured to fillets p<1>, p<2> while further panelling q secured as shown covers the cant rail. An angled strip r secured as shown forms together with the moulding strip r<2> channels for the upper edge of the windows. The cross ribs o of the roof are connected to the pillars by gussets o<1> and angle pieces o<2>, o<3> are provided to support the upper saloon. Specification 422,642 is referred to.</p> |
