The invention discloses a method and device for managing instant messaging contact information. The method for managing the instant messaging contact information comprises the following steps of: acquiring at least one kind of extended information of a contact by an instant messaging client; matching the acquired extended information with a grouping rule, wherein the grouping rule is included in a preset grouping rule set; if the matching is successful, obtaining at least one recommending grouping of the contact according to the successfully matched rule; and carrying out grouping processing on the contact according to the recommending grouping. By adopting such technical scheme, when a user needs to group the contact, the instant messaging client firstly acquires the extended information of the contact and automatically groups the contact according to the extended information and the preset grouping rule, and therefore, the user operation is simplified, and the processing speed of grouping the contact is improved. In addition, through application of the technical scheme provided by the invention, the batch grouping processing of the contact is realized and the execution efficiency is improved. |
