- 37 Abstract METHOD, APPARATUS AND SYSTEM FOR ENCODING VIDEO DATA FOR SELECTED VIEWING CONDITIONS A method of displaying a calibrated image upon a display device, comprises receiving (702) an image (170) for display. The image has at least a portion (560, 562) containing a calibration pattern (300, 330, 360, 380) with predetermined codeword values (302-318; 332 350; 362-378). The portion of the image is a non-displayed portion (404; 424,428; 562) of the image, the predetermined codeword values encoding at least reference light levels (304, 318; 804, 806) of the image.
