An image forming apparatus (1) is provided with: a storage unit (23); a printing unit (6); a sheet size detection unit (16); a size determination unit (25); and a control unit (20). The storage unit (23) stores image data of an original image. The printing unit (6) prints the original image on a sheet. The sheet size detection unit (16) is used to detect a size of the sheet. The size determination unit (25) calculates the size of the sheet in a sheet conveyance direction on the basis of an output from the sheet size detection unit (16) and compares the size of the sheet with the size of the original image to derive the difference between the sizes. If the size of the original image in the sheet conveyance direction is greater than the size of the sheet, the control unit (20) causes the printing unit (6) to divide the image data of the original image to allow the original image to be printed over a plurality of sheets, and causes the printing unit (6) to print the original image on a plurality of sheets P. |
