424,686. Yarns. SINFRA AKT.-GES., St. Gallen, Switzerland. Aug. 21, 1933, Nos. 23282, 23283, and 23284. Convention dates, March 17, March 17, and March 18. [Class 120 (iii)] [See also Group VIII] Yarn comprises a knitted carrier body or core 2, which may be tubular, having loops 3 knitted thereinto and projecting therefrom. The loops may be arranged in helically disposed rows round the core, the rows preferably being one or more stitches apart. Different coloured threads may be used. The yarn may be made on a circular knitting machine, the needles of which are divided into two groups, of which one group knits the core and the other the loops, the two groups being actuated by separate cams arranged axially or radially displaced ; the needles forming the loops are supplied with thread only at every alternate working stroke. The upper cam, Fig. 6, carrying eight needles is supplied with two threads F<1>, F<2> to make the core, and the lower cam also with eight needles is supplied with a single thread S to make the loops. In a modified cam arrangement, Fig. 8, a loop yarn is produced in which the helical rows of loops touch one another. Three or more cams may be employed to produce a yarn in which the rows of loops overlap.
