The invention relates to a method for producing a fibre end (1c) with an increased diameter at an optical fibre (1) having a radial optical refractive index profile across the fibre longitudinal direction, said refractive index profile having, as seen in the fibre longitudinal direction and proceeding from the enlarged fibre end (1c) at least into the length portion (4), a continuous optical refractive index curve in relation to the respective diameter, said method comprising the following method steps: a) introducing a partial length (6) of a length portion (4) of the optical fibre (1) into a heating region (5) and heating the partial length (6), b) compressing the heated partial length (6) in the fibre longitudinal direction by pushing the length portion (4) on one side of the heating region (5) in the direction of the heating region (5) and pulling it out of the heating region (5) in the same direction at the opposite side, wherein the length portion (4) is in each case pushed more strongly than pulled out for the purposes of increasing the diameter of the partial length (6), c) severing the partial length (6) (with an increased diameter) transversely to the longitudinal extent for generating a separation surface for coupling-in light. Furthermore, the invention relates to a corresponding apparatus for carrying out the method. |
