The invention relates to a switching system (2), in particular of an on-board electrical system of a motor vehicle, comprising a hollow cylinder (16) which has a first aperture (18), within which a first contact rail (22) is arranged, and a second aperture (20), which is spaced apart from said first aperture and within which a second contact rail (24) is arranged. The switching system (2) comprises a contact slide (42) which is mounted within the hollow cylinder (16) such that it can be displaced between a first position and a second position in a transversal direction (28) and which has a first section (44), which is electrically conductive, and a second section (46), which is not electrically conductive. The first contact rail (20) and the second contact rail (24) are electrically contact-connected by means of the first section (44) in the first position, and the first section (44) is surrounded by the hollow cylinder (16) in the second position.
