Disclosed herein are methods of controlling undesirable vegetation, comprising applying to vegetation or an area adjacent to the vegetation or applying to soil or water to limit the emergence or growth of vegetation a safened herbicidal composition comprising a pyridine carboxylic acid herbicide and cloquintocet. Also disclosed herein are compositions for controlling undesirable vegetation in cereals.

1. A method of controlling undesirable vegetation, comprising applying to vegetation or an area adjacent the vegetation or applying to soil or water to limit the emergence or growth of vegetation a herbicidal composition comprising:
(a) a herbicide comprising a compound of the following structure wherein
X represents alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, alkylamino, alkenyl, alkynyl, or cycloalkyl;Y represents hydrogen, alkyl, or halogen;R represents hydrogen, alkyl, or benzyl; oran agriculturally acceptable salt thereof; and (b) cloquintocet, or an agriculturally acceptable salt or ester thereof; wherein the herbicide is applied in an amount of at least 4 g ae/ha; and wherein the undesirable vegetation is controlled in cereal crops.
