A restraint system (1) for a driver of a vehicle (2) has at least one protection bar (8) arranged laterally next to a driver's seat. Said protection bar (8) is pivotable between an approximately vertical release position (10) and an approximately horizontal restraint position (9) about an approximately horizontal axis (7) running transversely with respect to the longitudinal extent of the vehicle. In order to obtain a simple and cost-effective construction, at least one motor (11) which is mounted at both ends in joints (12) acts between the protective bar (8) and a vehicle-mounted part. The mutual distance between the joints (12) is adjustable by the motor in order to enable the protection bar (8) to pivot between the release position (10) and the restraint position (9). |
