PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to prevent surface potential non-uniformity from occurring in a rotation shaft direction of an image carrier, with a simple method, in using a recording medium smaller than the maximum width.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus executes surface potential uniforming mode which includes: a charging step that charges a surface of an image carrier with the same polarity as charging polarity of toner, by use of at least one of a charging device and a transfer member, with a discharging device turned off, after a rear end of a recording medium passes through a transfer nip part, when a width of the recording medium is smaller than an image forming area of the image carrer; and a discharging step that turns on the discharging device after the charging step. |
