A method for real-time rendering of illuminated specular surfaces commences by establishing a viewing reflection vector R associated with an image to be rendered. For each edge U i , the local radiance is established by (a) establishing a normalized projection of a single point S 1 of the viewing reflection vector R onto a plane defined by edge U i U i +1 ; (b) determining if S lies inside U i U i +1 , and if so, (c) performing a halfway transform of U i , S and U i +1 ; and (d) performing an edge integral is performed on U i , S and S , U i +1 to establish radiance. An iteration is performed over all edges and the local radiance for all edges is summed. The specular surfaces are rendered in accordance with the established radiance. |
