PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogel having sustainable antimicrobial activity and high biocompatibility, causing less irritation to normal tissues.SOLUTION: A hydrogel includes a hydrophilic polymer, water, and quaternary ammonium salt-based compound, being crosslinked by irradiation. The quaternary ammonium salt-based compound is preferably cetylpyridinium salt, more preferably cetylpyridinium chloride. Since the hydrogel can has antimicrobial properties with a low sustained release rate, the quaternary ammonium salt-based compound is retained in the hydrogel. The antibacterial properties can be thus easily maintained. |
