PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding method by which when piping is welded from above to a base metal extending in a horizontal direction with use of an insert ring, a weld flaw can be suppressed.SOLUTION: The welding method includes an arrangement step and a welding step. In the arrangement step, an insert ring 3 is inserted between a peripheral wall 11 bordering an upwardly opened through-hole 15 provided in a horizontally extending base metal 1 and a lower end part 21 of horizontally extending piping 2, the insert ring being configured in such a manner that the height of projection of an upper side projection 33 in a backing part 32 from a plate 31 is smaller than the height of projection of a lower side projection 34 from the plate part 31. In the welding step, the insert ring 3 is melted to the peripheral wall 11 and the lower end part 21 of the piping 2. |
