PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable accurate focus detection even when focusing on an ultra-bright object.SOLUTION: A focus detection device includes; a plurality of line sensors (102-1 through 11), each of which accumulates electrical charge obtained by photo-electrically converting an incident light flux from an object and generates a pair of image signals having parallax therebetween; setting means (103) for setting priority on the plurality of line sensors; characteristic value detection means (104, 105) which cycles through and monitors the plurality of line sensors on the basis of the priority set and detects a characteristic value signal of a pair of image signals generated by a line sensor being monitored; control means (106, 103) which provides control to halt charge accumulation by the line sensor being monitored if the detected characteristic value signal is greater than a predetermined accumulation halt level; and focus detection means (100) which detects focal condition using the image signals read from the plurality of line sensors. |
