A method of operating a fluid-based spring counterbalance mechanism comprising a flexible-walled fluid-based spring 1100, the method comprising: operatively coupling a rotatable input shaft of the counterbalance mechanism to a jackshaft operatively coupled to a movable barrier for raising or lowering the movable barrier; applying a first force by a movable barrier operator 1050 to change the position of the barrier, the flexible-walled fluid-based spring exerting a second force to support at least a portion, preferably all, of the weight of the movable barrier in addition to the first force. Also claimed is a method of counterbalancing a moveable barrier using a fluid based spring comprising coupling the spring to the barrier such that a force exerted by the spring supports at least a portion of the barrier, securing fluid within the spring such that it exerts a desired force when the barrier is in a particular position and adjusting the quantity such that the desired force remains constant. |
